Why the strategy you pick matters
With average commercial bank credit card rates above 20% as of the Federal Reserve's May 2026 G.19 release, the order you attack your debts in changes both your payoff date and the total interest you hand over. The avalanche wins on arithmetic. The snowball wins on momentum, and there is peer-reviewed evidence that closing individual accounts predicts actually finishing. The honest answer is to run your own numbers both ways, which is exactly what these tools are for.
Each calculator states its interest assumption plainly and links its sources. The method behind every tool is documented on the About page, including where our figures come from and where the estimates will differ from your real statement.
What these tools will not do
No tool here will ask for your email, hand your details to a debt relief company, or list a specific lender for you to sign up with. Even the consolidation calculator above only compares the numbers you enter against paying off the same debts yourself; it does not recommend, rank, or link to any loan product. This site sells nothing and, at launch, carries no advertising of any kind. If you are looking for advice rather than arithmetic, the Contact page links to free, independent guidance from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
